Holyoke Revolver Club

The Western Mass Pistol League is postal league which means all matches are shot at your own home club. The scores are emailed in by the team captains. A match consists of the .22 National Match Course. The gun must be shot one handed. Three different targets are shot by each competitor. The first course is Slow Fire, 10-shots are fired on a slow fire target with a time limit of 10-minutes. The second course is a Timed Fire Target. Two, 5-shot strings are fired on it with a time limit of twenty 20-seconds per string. The last course is a Rapid Fire target. Two, 5-shot strings are fired with a time limit of 10-seconds per string. A total of  30-shots are fired by the shooter for each match.

Matches are on Monday Evenings – First line shoots at 6:30pm

Practice is held on Wednesday and Friday evenings (unless there is a meeting please check the calendar for the latest updates).

Regardless of what an individual shoots for a score, a minimum score of 235 is posted towards the team total. This is to encourage new shooters to join in the fun and not feel that only after they have become proficient in marksmanship would they be welcome. All Holyoke Revolver Club members are welcome to participate.

New Shooters

A Range Officer oversees all firing during the matches. All safety rules must be followed at all times! If interested in joining the Team and the League, just show up on match night. The club has instituted a buddy system for new shooters who might like some practice before shooting an official match. Observing a match behind the firing line enables a new shooter to see what a match is all about. Since several lines are shot during a given evening, one can observe and then decide to compete in the later lines. Matches start at 6:30 PM and will run to completion, usually around 9:00 PM. If you have not obtained a target pistol yet, someone will loan you one as well as ammunition to get started.

Practical matches are held on the second Saturday of each month. New shooters should arrive at 9 a.m. for safety instruction. Participants should bring a centerfire pistol or revolver and 100-150 rounds of ammunition, extra magazines and speedloaders, an OWB Holster (outside the waistband), a baseball cap along with eye and ear protection. Dan Jones is in charge. Volunteers are always needed to set up the stages please arrive at 8 a.m.

Dave Sparko conducts fun shoots on Tuesday evenings at the club. Competitors shoot .22 pistols at steel plates and a “Dueling Tree” of spinning targets, trying to move all of the discs to the opponent’s side of the tree. Match schedules will be posted on the club’s website and calenda
