NRA Certified Range Safety Officer Course

The NRA Certified Range Safety Officer program was developed in response to the demand for a recognized range safety officer certification. NRA Range Safety Officers are people who possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations.

This course does not encompass the functions and responsibilities of a Range Officer, who conducts NRA competitive shooting events as defined by Rule 11.5 of the NRA Rule Books.

NRA Certified Range Safety Officers must be 21 years of age or older.

The Range Safety Officer course consists of: Range Safety Officer’s roles and responsibilities, range standard operating procedures, range inspection and range rules, firearm stoppages and malfunctions, and Range Safety Briefings which include emergency procedures. Candidates must also receive 90 percent or better on the written exam.

Range Safety Officer courses are conducted by Chief Range Safety Officers. (“Chief Range Safety Officers” are those individuals certified to train Range Safety Officers.) The Range Safety Officer course is a nine-hour course that consists of classroom time and practical exercises conducted on a range. Range Safety Officer candidates will receive the NRA Certified Range Safety Officer Student Packet and be issued a NRA certificate upon completion of the program.

Please Note: The Range Safety Officer (RSO) credential is awarded by the National Rifle Association (NRA), a nationally recognized leader in firearm safety education and training. The NRA also works to protect and preserve the rights guaranteed by the Second Amendment.

While NRA membership is not required to attend this course or earn your RSO certification, becoming a NRA member offers a number of benefits, including support for firearm safety education, access to training resources, member publications, and discounts on many

NRA courses and programs.

This course is open to 2026 HRC Members and Non-Members.
HRC Members – $60.00.

Non-Member - $100.00

This course along with a marksmanship qualification will qualify HRC Members to perform as a coach at the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course.

PRACTICAL MATCHES

Practical matches are held on the second Saturday of each month. New shooters should arrive at 9 a.m. for safety instruction. Participants should bring a centerfire pistol or revolver and 100-150 rounds of ammunition, extra magazines and speedloaders, an OWB Holster (outside the waistband), a baseball cap along with eye and ear protection. Volunteers are always needed to set up the stages please arrive at 8 a.m. For more info

BENCH REST RIFLE

Bench Rest Rifle shooting season in now underway.
Bench rest shooting is a sport in which very accurate and precise rifles are shot at paper targets from a rest or bench from a sitting position.
Bench-rest competitions are held on the first and second Saturday (and the 5th Saturday if there is one).
Set up time is 9am. Matches start at 10am sharp.
The cost of the competition is $1.00 per target.

The Holyoke Revolver Club has affiliations with both the National Rifle Association and the Gun Owners Action League of Massachusetts. We highly recommend that our members support these two valuable Associations.

TUESDAY NIGHT FUN SHOOTS

Dave Sparko conducts fun shoots on Tuesday evenings at the club. Competitors shoot .22 pistols at steel plates and a “Dueling Tree” of spinning targets, trying to move all of the discs to the opponent’s side of the tree. See the calendar for matc dates and times. HRC CALENDAR
