Annual Meeting and Election – Change of Venue

The HRC November meeting will be held at the Holyoke Elk’s Lodge 902 (Banquet Room) at 250 Whitney Ave., Holyoke, MA.  We will open doors at 5:30 PM for a light food service and social hour.  The meeting will begin at 7:00 PM, with annual election of officers as our first order of business.

Norm Desilets 1944-2018

In September the Holyoke Revolver Club and the Western Mass. shooting community were saddened by news of the death of former club president Norm Desilets.  He was an NRA instructor and Chief Range Safety Officer, a coach and mentor to many beginning shooters, and he devoted hundreds of hours to improving the club.  He is missed.

New Life Members

Two longtime club members and officers were awarded life membership status at the July meeting.  Ron Mehlhorn is a board member, co-captain of the Western Mass. Pistol League team, chief maintenance officer and leader of the .22 rifle benchrest competition.  Rick Wallis was president of the club during a time of tight budgets and challenging circumstances.  He led a major effort to build up the treasury, reorganize the various club functions and establish a long-term plan for the ...

July Meeting

Because the Independence Day holiday falls on the first Wednesday, the July meeting will be held on July 11.  When the first Wednesday falls on a holiday or if severe weather makes travel unsafe, the monthly meeting will be held on the following Wednesday.

Spring Cleanup

Members of the junior teams along with Club members will conduct the annual cleanup of Club grounds on Sunday, May 20 beginning at 9 a.m.  weather permitting.  There will be a cookout at noon.  Participants should bring rakes, trimmers, blowers and other garden tools.

Clubhouse closed for floor cleaning

The clubhouse will be completely closed to all members (no exceptions) for the spring cleaning of the floors from 11:00am Saturday May 5th to 12:00 pm Sunday May 6th.  There will be no access to the inside of the building, including rest rooms.
Volunteers will be needed Saturday morning at 8:00 am to remove all furniture, and again on Sunday morning 8:00am to replace all the furniture.  If you are available contact Ron Mehlhorn ...

NRA Foundation Grant

The Club recently received a $5800 grant from the NRA Foundation for the purchase of a moving target system and other items for the junior team.  The grant application was prepared and submitted by Board member Cathy Wauczinski.   Friends of NRA events held in Massachusetts provided the funds, and foundation staff at NRA headquarters approved the award.

Don Ballou Award

Dave Sparko and Dan Jones received the club’s prestigious Don Ballou Award for outstanding service at the January meeting.  Dave is the Director of Fun and conducts fun shoots on alternate Tuesday nights.  Dan organizes the club’s practical shoots and designs interesting scenarios for the monthly contests.

Dues Time

It’s time to renew memberships for 2018, and for the first time in several years, the board of directors voted to increase membership dues.  Adult memberships are $120, spouses and seniors pay $60, and juniors will be eligible to join at no cost after taking the safety course.  New adult members will pay full fees until the July meeting, when new members’ dues will be cut in half for the remainder of the year.
